What is therapy?

Therapy, in my opinion, is the coming together of two or more minds to connect and aid in each others’ growth and understanding of the world. It is a safe place where one may gain insight about oneself, others, and the world around them. Therapy allows for us to unpack and process all that we have experienced with the support of healthy techniques and tools, such as mindfulness, which assists in easing one’s mind, body and spirit.

The terms “therapy” and “counselling” are often used interchangeably, but they can have slightly different connotations depending on context and region. In general, both therapy and counselling involve a professional helping individuals address their psychological, emotional, and behavioral challenges to improve their well-being and functioning. Here are some distinctions that are commonly made:

  • Therapy: Therapy often implies a broader and more comprehensive approach to addressing mental health concerns. It may be long-term and delve deeper into the individual’s past and unconscious processes. It is commonly associated with addressing severe mental health issues such as clinical depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, and personality disorders.
  • Counselling: Counselling typically focuses on specific issues or challenges and is often considered shorter-term and more solution-focused. It is often used for addressing situational problems, improving communication, and providing guidance during life transitions.

What is telehealth?

Telehealth encompasses a range of communication technologies, including secure video, telephone, and encrypted email, through which clients can access therapeutic services from the convenience of their own homes. This modality not only safeguards the confidentiality of clients but also extends accessibility to therapists across the entire province, thereby streamlining costs for both parties involved. For clients, it eliminates the need for childcare, commuting, and expenses like parking fees, while for therapists, it reduces overhead expenses associated with physical office space and marketing efforts.

Moreover, telehealth serves as an invaluable resource for individuals who may otherwise refrain from seeking therapy due to societal stigma. It is particularly pertinent in the context of the ongoing pandemic, as it minimizes the risk of spreading infectious diseases by enabling both clients and therapists to maintain physical distancing. It is worth noting that Kheprer exclusively utilizes telehealth to deliver its services, ensuring a secure, accessible, and responsive therapeutic experience.

What’s the difference between a therapist, psychologist and psychiatrist?

A therapist is a masters level professional that is able to provide talk therapy. A psychologist is a doctorate level professional that is able to provide talk therapy and conduct assessments. Finally a psychiatrist is a medical doctor that is able to provide talk therapy, conduct assessments and prescribe medication.
